Tutorial 1
Title: Semantic web and Linked data applications.
Duration: 2 hours.
Speaker: Dr. Monika Solanki Ph.D. Computer Science. University of Leicester.
http://www.cs.le.ac.uk/people/ms491/
Brief Description :
Semantic web and Linked data applications: A Multimedia perspective
Semantic web technologies have been extensively explored and deployed
to provide unifying models of knowledge representation and data
integration across domains and disciplines. The provision of formally
sound data modelling languages such as RDF and OWL, light weight HTML
enriching standards such as RDFa and Microformats, expressive querying
mechanisms such as SPARQL along with a plethora of robust
implementation frameworks have contributed to this success. More
recently, linked open data principles have been proposed, that aim to
strengthen the vision of extracting knowledge from "siloed"
information sources and publishing it on the web as an interconnected "Giant Global Graph".
This tutorial will introduce fundamental concepts underlying Semantic
web and linked data. Aligning with the theme of the conference, the
talk will highlight the benefits of applying Semantic web technologies
and linked data principles to ongoing research on context based data
retrieval and knowledge management for multimedia resources. Real
world case studies exemplifying the application of these technologies
in practice will be discussed.
Tutorial 2

Title: Applied image processing for defense applications .
Duration: 2 hours.
Speaker: Dr. Subrata Rakshit (Group Head, Computer Vision at Centre for AI and Robotics)Bengaluru , India.
Subrata Rakshit’s Education:
1. Washington University at St Louis (Postdoc , Image Processing).
2. California Institute of Technology (PhD , Image Processing ).
3. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (B.Tech).
Brief Description :
This talk will cover a large number of standard techniques
familiar to those working in the area of image processing. Topics will include magnifiation, noise reduction by coring, restoration, registration, segmentation, fusion and content evaluation. In each
case, it will be assumed the basic approach is familiar to the
audience and a brief outline will be given. The focus will be on
elaborating on various tweaks and innovations required to make the
standard techniques useful in applications.

Title: Pattern Recognition and its Problems – As on 2010
Abstract: Pattern Recognition is a branch of Artificial Intelligence which deals with Classification, or Description, or Classification and Description of observations/data/patterns. This is done using a priori knowledge or statistical information extracted from the observations. It consists of sub-disciplines of Feature extraction, Learning, and Classification. The Learning may be Supervised or Unsupervised(Clustering) or Semi-supervised. Typical applications are Image identification, character recognition, Speech recognition, industrial inspection, person identification, Classification of text, Handwritten postal code recognition, Emotion Recognition, Environment recognition, situation identification, and so on. The Pattern Recognition methods make use of Probabilistic theory, Fuzzy theory, Neural Networks, Bio-inspired approaches, and so on.
Key Note address 2
Speaker: Dr.Dipti Prasad Mukherjee
Title: Organ Shape Visualization using Statistical Shape Model
Abstract: Statistical shape model (SSM) is an important tool for modelling global shape, especially, shapes of human organ. In an SSM, variability of an organ shape is represented using the mean shape of the organ and its variations scaled by shape specific parameters. Naturally this variability of shape can be extended from the normal organ representation to the representations of the same organ under different diseased conditions. Therefore, an important tool would be to visualize disease specific organ shape given the normal representation of the organ in SSM. In this presentation we will first explain basic SSM model. We then present a set of preliminary investigations that allow us to generate and see the diseased shape of an organ given the SSM of the normal organ.
